After spending some time with various CEOs at the Rule symposium this July I’ve immersed myself in the innovative prospect generator model that Latin Metals employs.
In this episode of The ROI Channel I had the pleasure of chatting with Keith Henderson, CEO of Latin Metals - TSXV: LMS.
We unpack one of the most elegant business models in the resource sector, the prospect generator. Instead of diluting shareholders through endless capital raises, the likes of which are typically seen in junior mining companies, Latin Metals stakes early-stage projects and adds value through technical work before partnering with majors like AngloGold Ashanti to fund the high-risk exploration.
The result is a capital-light, royalty-creating machine built to compound value per share. Keith explains how this model transforms exploration from a game of dilution into one of sustainable wealth creation. As I mention in the interview: rocks are interesting, but returns matter more.
Keith does a great job of outlining that LMS has many ways to win after successfully staking a project: be it a full exit, receiving shares in the acquiring company or (my personal predilection) retaining a royalty as part of the sale.
In The ROI Club, we study royalty and toll-booth models that compound quietly in the background. Latin Metals is doing something similar but instead of collecting royalties on production, they’re generating them through discovery.
It’s a model that turns geological insight into asymmetric optionality as can be seen by the success of some of the larger players in the space such as Altius Minerals.
I frame them as royalty incubators and I hope that name takes off!
